BIO

Michael Paris Mazzeo is an artist, educator, curator, and collaborator who has long traversed the line between art and commerce, having owned and operated a successful photography gallery in New York City, while maintaining an art practice and commercial studio. A photographer by training, specializing in contemporary and antiquarian photographic processes, he recently turned his attention toward performance, video, and installation art, earning an MFA in Digital and Interdisciplinary Arts Practice from the City College of New York.

Michael’s commitment to art and education is evidenced by his long and diverse teaching career, having served on the faculties of Parsons New School for Design, The School of Visual Arts, The Pennsylvania College of Art and Design, New Jersey City University and currently, The International Center of Photography and The City University of New York. He has been a featured portfolio reviewer at art festivals and conferences including FotoFest, Review Santa Fe, Photolucida, Foto DC, Atlanta Celebrates Photography, ASMP, The Center of Photography at Woodstock, the Society for Photographic Education, Photo Plus Expo, and powerHouse Books, among others.

As owner and director of the Michael Mazzeo Gallery in Chelsea, from 2015 through 2012, he helped launch many artists careers, awarding fifteen photographers their first New York solo exhibitions and exhibiting the work of more than 130 others in group shows. The gallery has placed artists' works in major institutions and private collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Princeton University Art Museum, while producing critically recognized exhibitions, publications, and events.

Michael has photographed advertising campaigns for clients such as American Express, IBM, Guinness, and Verizon. His editorial work has been published in a wide range of magazines including Surface, Esquire, Men’s Health, Glamour, Latina, and Maxim.

Michael currently lives and works on a secluded island at the New Jersey shore, a short ferry ride from Manhattan.
